Cat Sitting & Other Ways to Take Care of Your Cat When Away

When holiday time comes around – or if you just need to leave your kitten for a few days – you’ll need to think about the best way to take care of her while you’re away.

Here are some of the best options.

Taking Care of Kitten When Going Away Catteries

Ask your vet, or a friend who also has a cat, if they can recommend a cattery where your kitten can stay. Visit the cattery first to make sure you’re happy with your feline friend’s temporary home. Above all, check that it looks tidy and smells clean. When you take your kitten there, leave her with a favourite toy, blanket or bed to help her feel comfortable in the new surroundings.

Taking Care of Kitten When Going Away Home Feeding

If you're only going to be away for a few days, you might want to use a home-feeding or pet-sitter service. Remember – don't tell them exactly when you’re going away until you have a written agreement in place.

Taking Care of Kitten When Going Away Cat-Sitting

If you have a friend or relative who likes cats, why not ask them to cat-sit for you? That way, your kitten will be able to stay in the safe and familiar surroundings of her own home. Remember to give your cat-sitter clear instructions about your kitten’s daily routines – including where her favourite hiding places are!

Taking Care of Kitten When Going Away Flying Felines

If you want to take your cat abroad, speak to your airline about requirements and restrictions. Also speak to your vet about what you’ll need – this includes things like pet passports, health certificates and immunisations appropriate for the country you’re travelling to.
